Girls Soccer: Mid Season Report

Well we had a number of games on Wednesday and Friday and after a host of upsets the league is even more wide open and confusing than it was before. Coxsackie Athens upset both Greenville and ICC opening the door for Maple Hill to move into first. After those two big wins for the Indians they then went and got blown out by Chatham.

WEDNESDAY

Ichabod Crane v. Greenville

In the biggest game on Wednesday the undefeated Riders headed to Greenville to play the one loss Spartans and came away with a 4-1 road win. The Riders jumped all over Greenville scoring three first half goals before the Spartans were finally able to break free for a goal of their own just before the half. The Riders added one more goal in the second half to cement the win.

Jessica Van Alphen, Jessica Mink, Morgan Van Alstyne and Cassidy Lester each scored for the Riders while Alex Van Auken scored Greenville's lone goal on a Taylor Anne Young assist. Alicia Mink made 8 saves in goal for ICC while Abigail McQuillen made 8 for Greenville.

Taconic Hills v. Maple Hill

The Wildcats remained undefeated with an easy 7-0 win over the Titans. Meeghan Arno scored a pair of goals for MH as she set a new school scoring record. Scary part is we are not even half way through Arno's junior season.

Along with her two goals Arno also notched 2 assists while Ashley Cross finished with a goal and 4 assist. Sierra Legge scored 2 goals for Maple Hill while teammates Kristen DerGurahian and Anna Racz each netted one. Janine Ham made 8 saves in goal for the Titans.

Cairo Durham v. Hudson

The Mustangs earned their third league victory of the year while keeping the Bluehawks at one after a 2-1 overtime victory. Hailey Hollenbeck scored the games first goal for Hudson in the opening half before the Mustangs drew even with six minutes left in the contest on an unassisted goal by Nicole Zacchio.

In OT Sarah Daily scored off an Maureen Selner assist to give the Mustangs the win. Jackie Hall made 8 saves in goal for Hudson while Samantha Lorenz made 8 for C-D.

Coxsackie Athens v. Chatham

A mere two days after pulling the upset over Greenville the Indians were hoping to do the same at Chatham on Wednesday but after a tight first half the Panthers blew the game open for a 5-1 victory.

Elizabeth Salvino opened the scoring in the first half giving the Indians the early lead before Abby Wheeler and Rosa Acheson scored to give the Panthers the lead heading to the half. In a quick flurry Cailey Nieto scored a hatrick for the Panthers to stretch out the lead.

Wheeler added 2 assists to go with her goal while Taylor Wenk, Regina Behn and Alyssa Keeler each tallied an assist. Brittany Lossow made 10 saves in goal for Chatham while Jenna Morse made 9 in the loss for C-A.

FRIDAY

Ichabod Crane v. Coxsackie Athens

Having already knocked off one undefeated team earlier in the week the Indians went ahead and did it again on Friday as they knocked off ICC 2-1 in Coxsackie. With the game tied at 0 heading into the half the Indians struck for two second half goals before the Riders responded with one of their own.

Emily Proper scored both goals for C-A, one off a Kelsey Lenney assist and the other from Allison Brocket. Jenna Morse made 9 saves in goal for the Indians while her counterpart in goal for ICC, Alicia Mink, made 10. Morgan Van Alstyne scored the Riders lone goal off a Shana Barry assist.

Next up for C-A is a home game on Thursday against Taconic Hills while the Riders will host Cairo Durham under the lights on Tuesday.

Chatham v. Cairo Durham

The Panthers scored a pair of first half goals against Cairo and held on for a 2-1 victory. Victoria Bemiss scored on a free kick for the Panthers to open the scoring before Taylor Wenk scored off an Abby Wheeler assist. Cairo's lone goal came from Nicole Zacchio.

In goal Brittany Lossow made just 2 saves in the win for Chatham while Sam Lorenz made 4 for the Mustangs. Cairo heads to ICC on Tuesday while the Panthers head to Taconic Hills.

Hudson v. Maple Hill

The Wildcats blew out Hudson 10-0 thanks in large part to a pair of hatricks from Meeghan Arno and Sierra Legge. Arno also notched an assist to go along with her three goals. Taylor Czajkowski added 2 goals and 2 assists for the Wildcats while Ashley Cross finished with a goal and 2 assists. Somer Connolly scored the other goal for MH while Erin Mosher tallied 2 assists. Hudson will host winless Catskill on Tuesday while Maple Hill has a big time showdown with Greenville in Castleton on Tuesday.

Catskill v. Greenville

After starting the week with a pair of tough losses Greenville got back on the winning track with a 9-0 victory over winless Catskill. The Spartans scored six first half goals before adding three more in the second half.

Alex Van Auken and Erica Hamilton each finished with 2 goals and an assist while Michelle Schoenborn finished with 2 goals of her own. Taylor Anne Young had one goals and a pair of assists while teammates Heather Carl and Shelby Magee each tallied a goal of their own. For Catskill Meghan Baxter made 21 stops in goal.

Catskill next heads to Hudson on Tuesday looking for their first win while Greenville takes the trek to Maple Hill as they look to knock off the last undefeated team.

STANDINGS
1) MH (7-0-2): Earned draws against ICC (1-1) and Green (8-8) and beat the rest
2) ICC (7-1-1): Haven't been great but good enough til C-A, should get back on track for a bit
3) Greenville (6-2-1): Were cruising til the 2 losses this week, MH game will be huge on Tues.
T4) Chatham (6-3): Have lost to the top 3 teams, but handled the rest
T4) C-A (6-3): Two wins over undefeated teams and a blowout loss shows their inconsistency
5) C-D (3-6): Another inconsistent team, there is some talent here to give teams a scare
T7) Taconic Hills (1-7): They have some offensive talent but need to play stronger overall
T7) Hudson (1-7): They have a very good player in Hollenbeck but lack consistent overall play
9) Catskill (0-8): Have lacked an offensive punch or ability to come up with stops on D
