Ichabod Crane v. Catskill
With just two games remaining on their schedule heading into Wednesday the Riders needed just one victory to secure the Patroon Conference title. Taking on a 5 win team the Riders seemed to be poised for an easy victory but instead had to fight hard to earn a 2-0 win.
Kyle Kline scored a goal in the first half assisted by Will Poetzsch and added another in the second on a Chris Alarcon assist. Ricky Meyers for Catskill was forced into 5 stops in the loss while Alex Mastrianni had to make just 2 saves to earn the win.
The loss ends Catskills regular season and also eliminated them from sectional contention finishing at 5-10-1. The Riders improved to 13-1-1 with one game left on Friday when they will travel to Greenville.
Maple Hill v. Chatham
The Panthers took sole possession of third place in the Patroon Conference with a hard fought 3-1 win over the Wildcats on Wednesday. Neither team was able to net a goal in the first half but Chatham came blazing out of the half scoring three goals in just over four minute to open the second stanza. Maple Hill cut into the lead halfway through the half on a Steven Sepkowski penalty kick but that was as close as the Wildcats would draw.
Will Gauthier scored the first two goals while Tyler Mashaw added the third in the win. Josh Kohrs had two assists while Mike Gilbert added one. Steve Oleynek made 12 saves in the win for Chatham while Jeremy Van Alstyne stopped 13 for Maple Hill.
Chatham, now 11-3-1, closes out their season Friday when they will host Coxsackie Athens while Maple Hill falls to 11-4 and hosts Taconic Hills on Friday to end their season.
Hudson v. Taconic Hills
The Bluehawks picked up their first win of the season defeating the Titans 3-2 in Double Overtime on Wednesday. After falling behind early the Bluehawks rallied to take a 2-1 halftime lead before the Titans knotted the game at 2 and sent it to overtime. With time winding down the Bluehawks converted a penalty kick to earn the victory.
Cam Wheeler got the scoring started for the Titans when he netted a goal off a Mitchell Albrecht and Alex Mierzejewski assists. Just after the first goal Hudson responded when Roodley Dorce scored an unassisted goal to even the game at one. As the half wound to a close the Bluehawks struck again as Hector Chavez gave his team the lead.
Hudson would hold the lead until late in the second half when Albrecht connected with Mierzejewski to tie the game and send it to overtime. The two teams played through one overtime and 8 minutes of the second before the Bluehawks were awarded a penalty kick with just two minutes remaining. Ian Hunter put the penalty into the back of the net and gave his team their first win of the year.
Brett Delamater who's had a good season in goal despite the lack of wins for Hudson finished with 3 saves while Jake Littman made 7 stops in the loss.
Both teams are now 1-14 with one game remaining on their schedules. Both finish up their seasons on Friday as Hudson will host Cairo Durham and the Titans travel to Maple Hill.
Greenville v. Coxsackie Athens
Heading towards post season play the Indians earned a key in conference win over fellow Class B school Greenville on Wednesday with a 2-1 win. The victory improves the Indians to 6-8-1 and jumps them ahead of the 6-9 Spartans for fifth place in the Patroon Conference.
George Harvey got Greenville's lone goal a mere 15 seconds into the game but that would not be enough. Later in the first half Nathan Barbour headed home a corner kick to even the game. The game remained tied until Justin Bushey vollied home a Billy Wixon pass.
Neither team will have an easy finish to their season on Friday as C-A heads to third place Chatham while Greenville hosts first place ICC.
