Chatham rolls as rest of local football teams fall

A number of local games this past weekend. Right into the results...

Catholic Central v. Ichabod Crane

ICC remained winless after a 33-0 loss to the Crusader's Friday night. Catholic Central scored 13 points in the first and third quarters before adding seven more in the fourth. This was the Crusader's first win of the year while ICC dropped to 0-5.

The Riders have just two games left on their schedule starting off with a Saturday trip to tough Fonda. The following Friday ICC will travel to undefeated Chatham.

Hudson v. Cohoes

The Bluehawks dropped their second consecutive game falling to Reinfurt Division foe Cohoes 26-22. Hudson drops to 3-2 overall and falls to fourth place in the division. There are 5 teams in the Reinfurt and four of them will make the Section II Class B playoffs.

The two teams started out the game by holding each other scoreless through the opening stanza. The Tigers started out pounding it on the ground with Anthony Fogarty who scored two TD's in the second quarter that Cohoes added extra points too for a 14-0 lead. Before the half Hudson responded when Talib Barksdale back from an injury found John Grandinetti for a 40 yard touchdown strike. After a Jon Mercante two points conversion run the Bluehawks scored again, this time on a 2o yard Barksdale scamper that was followed up by a Tayron Bryant two point conversion that gave Hudson a 16-14 halftime lead.

The offenses were again held in check through the third quarter before Nevin Sheldon took an interception 75 yards to the house for a TD and a 22-14 lead. Unfortunately for Hudson Fogerty again found the endzone on the ground but the extra point was missed and Hudson held on for a 22-20 lead. Before the game was over though Cohoes connected on a 50 yard pass to take the game.

Cairo Durham v. Chatham

Chatham improved to 5-0 while the Mustangs dropped to 1-4 after a 62-0 Panther beat down. Chatham scored 21 in the first and 20 in the second before adding 14 and 7 in the second half.

Junior running back Josh Keyes ran in three scores in the first quarter before adding two more in the second quarter. In between the two second quarter Keyes scores Ryan Coon added a score of his own.

In the third quarter Keyes added two more to his total, to end the day with 7 TD scores. Keyes ran one in and followed that up with a receiving TD from Tanner Niles. In the fourth Gilbert Rivera took and INT to the house for the game's final score.

Chatham has assured themselves a spot in the Class C playoffs with only two games remaining. Up next for the Panthers is always tough 3-2 Watervliet. Cairo will travel to Catholic Central, another one win team.

Rensselaer v. Hoosick Falls

In a Class C/D cross over game with no bearing on the playoffs one of the top Class C teams, Hoosick Falls squared off with a top D team in the Rams. Hoosick Falls scored 7 in the first, 6 in the second and 8 more in the fourth while the Rams scored their only 7 in the second as they fell 21-7.

The Rams only score was a Tim Foust past to Jarrid Wilkinson, followed by a Mico Perez De Los Santoas kick. Rensselaer will end their season with a two game home stand, first against one win Salem then against fellow powerhouse Lake George, who is also 4-1.

Fonda v. Taconic Hills

The Titans hosted the Braves and fell to 2-3 after a 30-16 loss on Friday. After falling behind 7-0 early the Titans took the lead on a Nolan Boice TD run and his own two point conversion. Fonda answered back and wouldn't trail again as they outclassed the Titans.

TH will travel to one win Coxsackie on Saturday.

Voorheesville v. Coxsackie Athens

The Indians fell 36-15 at home on Saturday in a game that was a lot closer than the score indicated. Despite running nearly double the plays, gaining more yards and controlling the clock the Indians could not pull the upset over the Blackbirds.

Voorheesville opened the scoring in the first quarter before the Indians responded with two second quarter scores, Jimmy Stephens and Kyle Humphrey one yard runs. The Blackbirds connected on another TD pass in the third and converted the two point conversion to tie the game at 15. The Blackbirds added 15 more points in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
