Three local teams made it to sectionals this year with Ichabod Crane leading the way as the #1 South team in Class A and the Riders received a first round BYE. Chatham who had a strong regular season was seeded second in Class CC and also received a BYE into round two. New Lebanon the eighth seed in Class D coming from the Central Hudson Valley League had a first round match up before playing again on Friday.
New Lebanon v. Fort Ann
After a stirring 3-0 victory in the first round the Tigers knew they'd be fighting an uphill battle on Friday as they would square off with top seeded Fort Ann. Fort Ann scored two first half goals and dominated the action for most of the first half. With under five minutes left the Tigers struck to draw within one on a Todd Ferguson goal.
In the second half the Tigers came out fired up and looked primed to pull a potentially major upset. However 8 minutes into the half Fort Ann took advantage of pressure in front of the Tigers goal to push their lead to two.
New Lebanon scored another goal by Ferguson with time winding down. With precious little time left on the clock the Tigers had one last shot with a free kick just outside the box that found it's way on goal but a good save by the Fort Ann keeper preserved the win for Fort Ann.
It was a good run for the Tigers who did not have a typical "New Lebanon year" this season as they did not compete at the top of the league. Still a first round sectional win followed by a near upset of the top seed is a solid finish to their season.
Hoosick Falls v. Chatham
Although they did not capture at least a share of the Patroon Conference title for what would have been the third consecutive year the Chatham Panthers still had a good year and were seeded second in Class CC. Facing the seventh seed Hoosick Falls on Friday the Panthers seed was not enough as they were upset 4-1.
Hoosick Falls dominated the game from the get go and despite some early Chatham chances were the first ones to get on the scoreboard off a corner kick 16 minutes into the game. The Panthers had a chance to even things up when they sent a long ball past the Hoosick Falls defender but Will Gauthier got to it as the keeper charged and cleared it up the sideline. Tyler Mashaw took control of the clearance and sent a ball right back into the box with the defense scrambling. Gauthier headed the ball towards the net but the keeper made a terrific one handed stop to keep it out of the net.
Hoosick Falls ran an effective off sides trap in the first half helping to nuetralize any offensive efforts by the Panthers. With the lead and only 40 minutes to play the seventh seeded Panthers employed five full time defenders and another midfielder assigned to defend in an attemp to hold on for the 1-0 victory.
Another corner kick resulted in another Hoosick Falls goal in the second half before they added a third on some defensive miscues later in the half. Chatham finally got on board when Todd Van Alstyne drove a free kick low through an eight man wall and past the keeper.
Hoosick Falls responded with yet another goal despite their defensive formation as they shocked all of Class CC with the upset victory.
Keep an eye out of our Season in Review after all teams have completed post season play where we will take a look at the players Chatham will be losing and returning next season.
Catholic Central v. Ichabod Crane
The Riders came in fresh while their opponents had played a game just days earlier and ICC took full advantage taking control from the opening kickoff. The Riders dominated possession and quality chances for the full 80 minutes as the Crusaders never truly threatened.
With 27 minutes on the clock in the first half, ICC freshman Tyler Jablanski crossed the ball into the middle where it was played off to Mitchell Niemeyer who finished to give the Riders a 1-0 lead. Less than seven minutes later the Riders sent a fantastic ball through the CCHS defense and onto the running foot of Kyle Kline who calmly touched it past the opposing keeper as he's done so many times this season.
Those two goals would be all the Riders would need as their defense completely shut down Catholic Central. Led by sweeper Nick Boardman and stopper Steven Domino the ICC defense continued it's string of stellar play.
The victory moves the Riders into the next round where they will face either Mohonasen or Scotia Glenville next Thursday at 2 at a nuetral site in Queensbury.

Boys Soccer: Sectional Results
A number of local teams made Sectionals and began play this week. In Class A the Patroon Conference champions, Ichabod Crane was given the #1 South seed. The Riders will open play Friday night against #4 North Catholic Central. I'll be at that game tonight just as I was at the Chatham Panthers game today, so check back tomorrow to see my write ups on those two games. As just stated I was at the Chatham game today as the highly favored #2 seed in Class CC fell to seventh seeded Hoosick Falls.

Girls Soccer: Sectional Results
A number of local teams made sectionals and began their quest for a sectional title this week. In Class D the New Lebanon Tigers were seeded second and after a first round bye were set to start action Friday evening. Two local teams will compete in Class C as Chatham was seeded 8th while Maple Hill got the second seed after a second place finish in the Patroon Conference. Both Coxsackie-Athens and Greenville would be competing in Class B while Patroon Conference champions Ichabod Crane were awarded the sixth seed in Class A.
Four of the six local teams got their sectional bids underway on Thursday.
Broadalbin Perth v. Coxsackie Athens
After a successful regular season in which they knocked off both Greenville and ICC this year the Indians were seeded 8th and hosted the Patriots on Thursday. Broadalbin scored a goal in the first half and added two more in the second half en route to a 3-0 win.
Cheyenne Guisti recorded a hat trick for the Patriots while Tori Marrotta added a pair of assists. Jenna Morse made 5 stops in goal for the Indians in the loss.

Fifth seeded Greenville hosted the Tigers of Cohoes and advanced to the second round with a 4-1 victory on Thursday. Greenville jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the half before each team scored one goal in the second.
As they have all year long Taylor Anne Young and Alex Van Auken led the charge for the Spartans as each player recorded a pair of goals and an assist. Bonnie Harvey made 3 saves in goal for Greenville to help earn the win.
Up next for the Spartans is a big match against fourth seeded Stillwater Friday at 6.

The Panthers now must fight an up hill battle as they now face top seeded Hoosick Falls on Saturday morning.
Gloversville v. Ichabod Crane
After a 14-1-1 regular season the Riders were seeded a surprisingly low sixth in Class A and began their quest for a title hosting 11th seeded Gloversville. Despite dominating the game for nearly the entire time the Riders fell 1-0 on a goal in the second overtime.
The Riders fired shots on goal at a rapid rate but struggled to finish despite a number of quality chances. Headers, deep shots, short shots, give and goes, through balls, nothing could get the ball into the back of the net for ICC.
After 80 minutes of play the game headed to the first overtime and the teams continued the scoreless drought through 10 more minutes. Early in the second overtime Melissa Snyder finished a corner kick that would be enough to lead the Dragons to the upset.
Despite just having one goal on the scoreboard each team hada goal called back. The Riders looked to have finished a corner kick in the second half but a brief celebration the officials decided the ball was in possession of the goalie before having it knocked out. Gloversville took a corner kick late in the game that found the back of the net but was disallowed after it was deemed the ball had crossed the endline and then curved back into play.
The shocking loss ends the Riders season as they are set to lose 11 players. We'll go into the players lost and key returners more after all teams have completed post season play.

ICC Lady Riders match the boys, Win Patroon Conference title...and other Girl's results
The Patroon Conference girl's soccer season came to a close on Monday with a slate of four games including two that had implications on who would win the league crown. A loss or draw by Maple Hill would give Ichabod Crane the title no matter their result later in the day, a Maple Hill victory would force the Riders to need a win to take home sole possession of the crown.
Greenville v. Ichabod Crane
With Maple Hill's victory over Taconic Hills earlier in the day the Riders new coming into their evening contest against a very good Greenville team that they would need a win to earn their 5th consecutive league title. After a quick start the Riders faltered but held on for a 4-2 victory to bring home the crown.
A mere 1:2o into the game the Riders set the tone as Shana Barry lofted a corner kick to the far post where Morgan Van Alstyne headed into the back of the net. The Riders kept up the pressure firing shots on goal but not being able to break through.
The constant pressure on the Greenville defense eventually paid off as Haley Ooms made her way up the sideline and crossed the ball. The cross was just far enough from the goal to give Greenville keeper Bonnie Harvey too far of a distance to cover, leaving her out of position. Cassidy Lester got a leg to the ball and send it up and over Harvey for a 2-0 lead.
With 5:50 left in the first half ICC put themselves well out in front with another goal. The ball was played into the box and Harvey charged with Alex Armstrong bearing down on her. Armstrong took a quick shot that went off Harvey and bounced free, Armstrong took full advantage but following up her own shot and pushing the lead to 3-0.
In the second half Greenville upped their attack right from the start. Michelle Schoenborn was cutting through defenders with half an hour left, but couldn't finish as Alicia Mink charged from the goal to make a save. With 24:30 left in the game Greenville finally got on the board on a miscue by the Riders defense. Taylor Anne Young crossed a ball into the box but the Riders had a chance to clear, but the clearance attempt went straight up into the air. Mink went catch but Schoenborn challenged her and as the ball fell free Schoenborn finished to cut the deficit to two.
Six minutes later the Riders lead was sliced to 3-2 when Alex Van Auken struck a fantastic ball from the top of the box up and over Mink and into the upper part of the net. With momentum all Spartans the game's outcome was in doubt, however the Riders would not let the title slip from their grasp.
Shanna Barry took a corner and sent it high into the box, the ball was headed up and it looked like Harvey had it her hands, but the ball slipped free and seemed to cross the line for a goal as the officials stopped play and ICC celebrated. After a long break in the action a Greenville player was red carded and a penalty kick was awarded. ICC senior sweeper Lacey Powers stepped to the penalty spot and calmly put the ball into the back of the net and gave her team a lead they would never relinquish.
The victory improves the Riders record to 14-1-1 and it seemed in great shape for a high sectional seed. However on Tuesday, the Riders were awarded just the sixth seed in Class A and are currently scheduled to face #11 Gloversville.
The Spartans who led the league for the first half of the season but struggled down the stretch were awarded the fifth seed in Class B and are scheduled to host #12 Cohoes on Wednesday.
Maple Hill v. Taconic Hills
The Wildcats took care of their end of business with a 8-1 victory on Monday. Their win gave them a chance to win the title with a slip up later in the day by the Riders, a slip up that never came. Maple Hill finishes the season 13-1-2, good for second place in the league.
All the scoring was done in the first half, as the two teams combined for 9 goals in the opening 40 minutes. Meeghan Arno scored 2 goals and added four assists while Sierra Legge added 2 and 2. Cheryl Bruen, Taylor Czajkowski, Somer Connolly and Theresa Fuller each added goals. The lone Titan goal came from Hara Aoki-Saffer on a Emma Gryner assist.
Maple Hill was awarded the #2 seed in Class CC and is scheduled to face the winner of #7 Berne Knox - #10 Hoosic Valley.
Hudson v. Cairo Durham
The Mustangs hosted the Bluehawks on Monday and the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie through 80 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtimes. Hailey Hollenbeck scored Hudson's lone goal before Brianna Calcavecchia evened the game with a goal for Cairo.
Neither team made sectionals as Hudson finished 3-12-1 while Cairo finished with a record of 4-11-1.
Chatham v. Coxsackie Athens
These two teams were slated to match up on Monday but we could not find results. The Chatham coach has sent in scores after every game, but I never received them and it seems like neither did the Register Star or Times Union. This game could have been a crucial one heading into sectionals in terms of seedings.
Coxsackie Athens was awarded the 8th seed in Class B and is scheduled to host #9 Broadalbin Perth on Wednesday. Chatham was also seeded 8th, but in Class CC and is schelued to host #9 Lake George on Thursday.

Chatham Defense announced
Just trying to get a feel for how video comes on here, I apologize ahead of time it's horrible.
Chatham romps in 1st Round win
When writing a story about the Chatham football team you have a difficult time figuring out what angle to take. Do you keep it simple and talk about another dominate Panther victory? Highlight stud player Josh Keyes who continues to shatter records nearly every game he plays? What about the offensive line who opens those holes for Keyes, or other running backs like David and Ryan Coon who could start and probably dominate for nearly every other Class C school in the section? Maybe the coaching staff who consistently has their team ready every week?
In this case you could have picked any one of those and been on the right track. The Panthers the top seed from the south division dominated the fourth seed from the north, Corinth, 62-0 in the driving rain Friday night. The Panthers scored in every quarter while the defense shut out the Tomahawks. Chatham put up 21 in the first, 20 in the second, 13 in the fourth and 8 more points in the final quarter.
Josh Keyes ran for close to 200 yards and 3 touchdowns. Don't overlook the fact that Keyes also set the tone from the teams first kickoff by leveling an opponent with a monster hit, the first of many. Keyes also forced 2 fumbles with his ferocious hits.
How about that offensive line? All they did was clear the way for over 400 yards of offense, all on the ground.
David Coon and Ryan Coon combined for close to 100 yards and 3 scores on the ground as well.
Sometime's it's tough to quantify what the coaching staff does but it was clearly audible all Friday night. Time and time again you could hear Panther coach Mark Dwyer shouting out calls to his defense on what Corinth would do, and time and time again he was correct putting his team in great shape to keep the shutout.
All in all it was a dominate performance by the Panthers who put the pedal to the metal and didn't let up til the final whistle. After four Keyes runs resulted in two first downs on their first drive David Coon finished it up with a score.
On the ensuing defensive possession the Panthers forced a fumble and Ryan Coon recovered setting up a 21 yard Keyes run for a touchdown on fourth down. After a Corinth punt with 2:20 on the clock Keyes took the first play 59 yards for another touchdown.
In the second quarter Ian McGrath picked off a pass to put his team in scoring position again. Less than a minute later Ryan Coon scampered 20 yards to put his team up 28-0. Again less than a minute later the Panthers made a play, this time Keyes laying a monster hit and causing a fumble on the one yard line. David Coon ran in the one yard score shortly after. Chatham would score one more time before the half, this time a Keyes 39 yard run.
In the second half Tanner Niles snuck in a one yard quarterback keeper before Alex Mishkin added a rushing score in each of the final two quarters to close out the win.
Mike Gilbert added six extra points in the win while Miskin ran in one two point conversion.
Up next for Chatham will be Cambridge, coming off a 41-0 trouncing of Voorheesville. The Indians have one of the most vaunted programs in all of Section II and will come in with just one loss, to #1 North Seed Hoosick Falls. That game is slated to be played next Saturday at 7 pm in Stillwater.

Week in Review: Football
All four local teams went into action this weekend with their season's on the line. Undefeated Chatham looked to continue their winning ways in the first round of the Class C Sectionals on Friday, just like Hudson looked to do Saturday in the Class B tournament.
Taconic Hills participated in a cross over game on Friday, which is for teams who did not make the sectional playoffs to play one last game this year. The Titans however have petitioned Section II in hopes that they can play another game, a long shot at best. Ichabod Crane competing in their first ever season of 11 man varsity football was looking to end their season with their first win in a cross over game against Class D Whitehall on Friday.

Week in Review: Football
We had four Columbia County teams taking part in three games this week, with ICC heading to Chatham, Hudson playing for playoff position and Taconic Hills looking to play spoiler. We'll take a look at the other local games later tonight or tomorrow as Coxsackie-Athens and Cairo-Durham faced off as well and Rensselaer faced off with Lake George, considered by many the second best team in Section II Class D behind only the Rams.
Ichabod Crane v. Chatham
In a match up of one winless team (ICC) and one undefeated team (Chatham) the game went as expected with the Panthers winning 69-0. The Panthers put 41 points on the board in the first quarter and added 14 in both the second and third quarters.
Josh Keyes scored the game's first two touchdown's but not on the ground like usual. Instead Keyes's returned a fumble on the defensive side before taking a punt back for another score. Keyes added two more touchdowns later in the game and finished with four scores, 114 yards rushing on just three carries.
Ryan Coon added two scores on the ground as David Coon, Gilbert Rivera and Alex Mishkin each scored one rushing touchdown a piece. Tanner Niles attempted just two passes the whole day with the second completed to Ian McGrath for a touchdown. Mike Gilbert converted on 9 extra points in the contest.
Chatham finishes off it's regular season 7-0 and as the top seed in Section II Class C and will host 5-2 Corinth on Friday at 7. The Riders fell to 0-7 and will finish off their season at home against Whitehall on Friday.
Albany Academy v. Hudson
In a game that would determine the third seed in the Class B tournament from their division, the Bluehawks came from behind in an absolute barn burner to defeat Albany Academy 48-46. The contest also featured two of the most exciting players in Class B with Nevin Sheldon from Hudson and Zay Richardson from Albany Academy. The two players combined for 7 scores, five by Richardson but it was Sheldon who would score the go ahead touchdown for Hudson to help earn the win. The victory improved Hudson to 5-2 and earned them that third seed from the Reinfurt Division and will head to Hudson Falls (4-3) on Saturday for a 1 pm game.
Right off the opening kickoff Hudson got on the board when Tayron Bryant took the kick to the house for an 80 yard score. Brian McSween ran in the two point conversion for an 8-0 lead. Richardson responded with a short run for Albany Academy but the conversion was no good.
In the second quarter Richardson scored again before Hudson responded with a 25 yard run by Nevin Sheldon. Before the half the Cadets scored again for an 18-14 lead.
Coming out of the half Hudson fired back scoring two touchdowns in between an Academy score. Talib Barksdale ran in a quarterback keeper before converting on the conversion with another run. After the Cadets score Barksdale found McSween for a 70 yard touchdown as Hudson went up 30-22.
After combining for 52 points over the first three quarters the two teams would put up a remarkable 40 more in the final stanza. Academy struck first with another Richardson run before McSween answered with a 33 yard run of his own. After another Richardson score it was against McSween who found the endzone for Hudson, this time on a 57 yard pass from Barksdale.
The Cadets would run in one more score to retake the lead by two and put the pressure back on the Bluehawks. Hudson came through with the pressure on Barksdale hooked up with Sheldon on a 20 yard pass play to seal the win.
Barksdale finished the game with over 300 yards through the air and 3 TD's and over 50 yards on the ground. The star quarterback also found himself at wide receiver a few times and caught two balls from Tayron Bryant. McSween showed his versatility going for over 100 yards receiving and 40 on the ground as he scored three touchdowns and ran in a two point conversion. Sheldon also went for over 100 yards in the air and scored twice.
Taconic Hills v. Voorheesville
The Titans looked to make things difficult for the Blackbirds on Friday and despite two touchdowns in the fourth quarter came up short, falling 24-22.
The Blackbirds took an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter and that score would hold until the third. Chris McKay got the Titans on the board with a 20 yard run but the two point try was no good and the game was knotted at 6. Right off the ensuing kickoff the Blackbirds took it nearly 80 yards to retake the lead 10-6.
In the fourth Voorheesville ran the ball in to extend their lead to 17-6. Nolan Boice ran in a short score and followed that up with another run for the conversion as the Titans fought to within three. Again Voorheesville responded with a touchdown run and kick as they went up by 10. The Titans got on the board one more time, this time on a McKay reception from Nick Warren to pull to 24-22 but that was as close as it would get.
The Titans finish up their season next week with a crossover game at home against Watervliet on Friday at 7.

The Week that was: Girl's Soccer
For right now I'm going to focus just on the Columbia County teams, because...well, I've got to do a write up for ccSCOOP anyway. The non Columbia County teams will still be mentioned in the write ups along with any other important information.
Taconic Hills
After a 1-1 first half on Wednesday against Cairo the two teams exploded for a combined five goals in the second half, three of which came by the Titans as they pulled out a 4-3 victory. Hara Aoki-Saffer, a player we had discussed as being the most important piece for the Titans scored all four goals in the victory. Emma Gryner another player we keyed in on for the Titans picked up two assists. Janine Hamm continued her strong play in goal making 4 saves in the win.
The Titans earned their second win of the week on Friday as they defeated winless Catskill 2-0. Jamie Albrecht and Hara Aoki-Saffer each scored a goal assisted by Emma Gryner in the second half to help the Titans earn the win.
Hudson
The Bluehawks week got off to a rough start as they had to face off with powerhouse Greenville and fell 7-1. Hudson's lone goal came in the second half when Hailey Hollenbeck assisted on a Sam Davis goal. Jackie Hall made 8 stops in the loss.
Hudson dropped their final contest of the week on Friday as they fell 2-0 to Chatham. Jackie Hall made four saves in the loss but the Bluehawks inability to score doomed them on Friday.
New Lebanon
The Tigers had two games in two days, starting off against Loudonville Christian on Tuesday. The Tigers scored a pair of first half goals for a 2-1 lead heading into halftime before falling 3-2. Geneva Furlano and Hanna Springer each scored a goal in the loss.
On Wednesday the Tigers shutout Doane Stuart, earning a 4-0 victory. Furlano added 2 more goals to her weekly title while Springer scored one more and Juanita Eaton added one.
New Lebanon closed out their week with a game against Rensselaer at home on Friday and earned a hard fought 4-2 win. Furlano continued her torrid scoring pace as she scored 2 more goals, and Springer also added two to bring her weekly total to four.
Ichabod Crane
The Riders had just one game this week, Monday, when they faced off against first place Maple Hill and earned a come from behind 3-1 victory. Check the site for our combined full recap of both the ICC-MH boy's and girl's game for our Game of the Week.
Chatham
The Panthers only had a single game this week as they defeated Hudson 2-0 on Friday. Chatham scored a goal in each half to earn the win. Taylor Wenk scored a goal and added an assist on a Cailey Nieto goal. Brittany Lossow was forced to make 12 saves in the win.

Correction: ICC Boys still in first
My mistake on that last post. For some reason I thought ICC had a draw against Cairo the first time around, and I had totally forgotten about the Chatham-ICC draw in Valatie, even though I was there. So right now Chatham has 3 losses (2 to Cairo, 1 to ICC) and a draw (with ICC), Maple Hill sits with 3 losses (Cairo, ICC and Chatham once each), Cairo Durham is alone in second place with 2 losses (both to ICC) and Ichabod Crane remains alone in first place with one loss (MH) and one draw (Chatham).
Taking a look at the remaining schedules I think the title is certainly ICC's to lose as they play just three more games against Taconic Hills, Catskil and Greenville, a trio of teams they defeated 13-3. Keep in mind however that the Titans were the first team to score on the Riders this year and ICC had to fight back from down two to pull out a win against Greenville.
The Mustangs are also in good shape with four games to play as they play Taconic Hills, Greenville and Hudson, three teams they beat by a combined 11-1. The 'Stangs however do have one more major contest left as they have to face off with red hot Maple Hill who they beat just 2-1 earlier this year.
Maple Hill will need a lot of help to bring home the league title this year including going undefeated and hoping ICC drops 2 of their final 3 games and Cairo to lose 2 to earn a share of the title or 3 of their final 4 to earn the title outright. The Wildcats have by far the toughest schedule of the top four teams as they have to face 2 top tier teams (Chatham & Cairo), a middle of the pack team (Coxsackie) and only one bottom tier team (Taconic Hills).
Chatham is in even worse shape than the Wildcats in terms of what they would need to capture a league title. The Panthers would need to go undefeated the rest of the way followed by ICC losing 2 games for a share of the title or 3 for it outright. Cairo would also have to drop 2 games and Maple Hill would fall into a share with a tie or give Chatham the title with a loss if all those other scenarios fell into place. Certainly a long, difficult and unlikely road for Chatham to get a piece of the league title. Chatham plays Hudson, Taconic Hills, Coxsackie and Maple Hill in their final four games.

ICC Ladies take lead, Boys fall into 1st Place Tie
Although Columbus Day is generally reserved for the annual Maple Hill Holiday Tournament in Castleton, this year it featured just two varsity games, but each contest had major implications on the girl’s and boy’s races for a Patroon Conference title.
ICC v. MH Girl’s Soccer
The girl’s contest featured two teams who had fought to a 1-1 draw earlier this year and thanks to a recent Ichabod Crane loss to Coxsackie-Athens had pushed Maple Hill into the top spot. For the Riders to defend their league title for a fifth straight season they either had to knock off Maple Hill or somehow hope that two other teams could do the dirty work for them with limited games left. Luckily for ICC they took care of business and put their quest for a league title back into their own hands.
In front of their home fans it didn’t take Maple Hill long to strike. Less than three minutes into the contest Meeghan Arno sent a long ball onto the foot of Ashley Cross who was slowed down by Rider defenders. Cross stuck with it and got the ball onto her right foot and fired a rising shot that went up and off the hands of ICC goal keeper Alicia Mink and into the top netting.
As the half moved on the Riders started to find their groove and put some pressure on the Wildcat goal but with no true scoring threat. In the 25th minute the Riders finally broke through when Jessica Mink centered a ball to Mariela Jacome who powered a shot through a defender and past the keeper to even the contest at 1-1 as it headed towards the half.
Coming out of the half the Wildcats took it to ICC just as they had at the start of the game. Five minutes into the half the always dangerous Arno found space and fired a left foot rip that hit the underside of the cross bar but stayed out of the goal.
The Riders again found their groove and started playing the ball to the wings for crosses but were having a tough time getting anyone into the middle to finish off the passes. Ichabod drew fouls and got shots off inside the box but none of them ended in a goal.
Finally with 11:21 left on the clock the Riders ended the tie with another goal by Jacome. She found herself with the ball heading towards the goal and with a defender on her and Maple Hill goalie Anna Racz charging, Jacome tucked the ball under Racz and into the side netting for a 2-1 ICC lead.
Maple Hill charged back ripping shots on goal but Alicia Mink was strong in goal for ICC. With just under 8 minutes remaining Cassidy Lester took possession and went one on one with a defender before slowing down just in front of the box and laying the ball off for a hard charging Alex Armstrong who scored with a defender on her and Racz charging. That goal capped the scoring and an ICC 3-1 win.
The Riders improve to 11-1-1 with match ups against Taconic Hills and winless Catskill before having a big season ending match against Greenville. The Riders Patroon Conference lead is held by the slimmest of margins as Maple Hill is 9-1-2 with four games remaining while Coxsackie Athens is 8-3 with five games left and Greenville stands with a 7-3-1 record with four games left.
ICC v. MH Boy’s Soccer
The Riders traveled to Maple Hill alone a top of the Patroon Conference, with out a loss and knowing that earlier this year they had dismantled the Wildcats 3-0. By the time ICC left Maple Hill they had been shutout and dropped into a tie with Cairo Durham for first place with Maple Hill and Chatham hot on both of their heels.
The Wildcats came right out of the gate looking like the Wildcats of the past few years and not the team ICC handled easily earlier this season. Playing with speed and disrupting the Riders normally potent midfield play Maple Hill dominated from the get go.
In the 16th minute the Wildcats were awarded a free kick that was blocked down, but the ensuing cross lofted up to the far post where Jeremy Oles headed it home for a 1-0 Maple Hill lead. The Wildcats kept up their onslaught until just before halftime.
With seven minutes left in the half Nick Boardman took a free kick from deep and drove it towards the box where Mitchell Niemeyer got to it and flicked it towards the goal with the ball bouncing just under the cross bar. The ball bounced around before Tyler Jablanski got to it and fired another Rider shot off the post before the ball was finally cleared.
Two minutes before halftime the Riders had another chance to draw even when Kyle Kline powered his way through defenders and up the right wing before sending a pass to the middle where Bernie Watt was left unmarked. Watt was able to get his right foot, his weaker foot, onto the ball and flick it towards goal but the keeper was ready to make the stop.
In the second half the Riders upped the pressure and were able to draw some fouls despite still having their difficulties creating against the Wildcat defense. A free kick early was weakly cleared out just to have Kline rip a shot just over the cross bar.
Kline had another chance 11 minutes into the half when Niemeyer chipped a ball over the defense and just into the box. With Kline a step away the Maple Hill goalie was able to scoop it and avert any danger.
Less than two minutes after Kline’s chance Maple Hill would seal the win adding their second goal. Maple Hill was awarded a free kick near the corner kick flag and the ensuing cross was heading up into the air. Rider goalie Alex Mastrianni charged and punched the ball before landing on a Maple Hill player as the referee awarded a questionable penalty kick that David Briggs calmly finished.
The Riders kept up their pressure as they tried to cut into the deficit. With fourteen minutes left Niemeyer chipped to Kline who took possession before the ball found the left foot of Watt who fired a shot off the post and back into play. Kline took a shoot and it looked like a hand ball on a Maple Hill defender but much to the dismay of the Riders, the coaches and their fans nothing was called as Watt fired another shot, this time just wide of the goal.
ICC would have one more really good chance with just under four minutes to go as they were fouled dead center of the goal just outside the box but Will Poetzsch fired a shot over the bar and the Riders never again had a quality chance to draw even, falling 2-0.

Weekend Update
A large number of games went on this weekend, with two more big games slated for the Holiday on Monday as the ICC and Maple Hill boy's and girl's will square off.
On the girl's side Maple Hill is alone a top the Patroon Conference and if ICC wants to control it's own destiny for the league title they will have to knock off the Wildcats or hope for two other teams to do it for them later in the year.
For the boy's, the Riders are playing at a high level right now as they lead the league and are beating up on teams, most recently Columbia County rival Chatham who they beat 3-0. Maple Hill is a perennial power who is having a down year, but has been playing better since the midway point of the year.
BOYS SOCCER

After playing first place ICC to a one goal game the Bluehawks went to Coxsackie on Saturday and fell 4-0 as they remain winless on the year. Brett Delamater made 12 saves in goal for Hudson in the loss.
GIRLS SOCCER
Chatham v. Ichabod Crane
For the second time this season the Panthers and Riders battled into overtime with ICC pulling out a victory. On Saturday under the lights in Valatie the Riders remained in second place in the league after a 2-1 OT victory.

In the first overtime Shana Barry scored on a free kick for the game winning goal. Alicia Mink made 5 stops for the Riders in the win while Brittany Lossow had 9 stops in the loss. This was the second overtime loss in three days for Chatham.
Hudson v. Coxsackie Athens

Keyes breaking Records as Chatham rolls and other football results
Here is a look at how our local teams faired in this weekends football action.
Chatham at Watervliet
A year removed from having their season end at the hands of eventual Class C champions Watervliet the Panthers got a bit of revenge with a big 56-14 victory. After scoring 7 touchdown's last week Chatham junior running back Josh Keyes rushed for 402 yards on 21 carries and scored 8 times. His 402 yards is the fifth highest single game total in Section II history.
Running behind a fantastic offensive line Keyes scored the game's lone first quarter TD before adding four more rushing scores in the second half as Chatham went up 35-0 at the half. Keyes added two more scores in the third before busting loose for a 65 yarder in the fourth and final quarter.
Ryan Coon also racked up over 100 yards on the ground as the Panthers ate up over 600 yards on the ground. The Panthers defense gave up a single score in the fourth quarter as Watervliet's other TD came on a kickoff return. Chatham's defense also recovered three fumbles on the day.
Chatham now 6-0 overall and in the Class C South Division have locked up the top seed for the sectional playoffs. Next Friday Chatham will host Ichabod Crane in non league action for their final regular season game of the year.
Taconic Hills v. Coxsackie Athens
The Titans traveled to Coxsackie on Saturday and ruined the Indians homecoming with a 36-14 victory. The victory evened the Titans record at 3-3 but it looks as though the Titans will miss out on the Class C playoffs no matter what their result is next week when they face off with Voorheesville.
After falling behind 8-0 the Titans responded with a quarterback keeper as Nick Warren scampered 35 yards for a TD to pull within two. Late in the second quarter the Titans struck again when Nolan Boice rumbled 30 yards for a touchdown as the TH went up 12-8 heading into halftime.
The Titans kept up their offensive outburst scoring two more rushing touchdown's in the third quarter and another in the fourth. The Indians struck for a late score but it was too little too late.
Ichabod Crane v. Fonda
The winless Riders couldn't come close to matching the Braves on Saturday as they fell 54-0 on the road. The Riders allowed 33 first quarter points before Fonda put it in cruise control, scoring seven points in each of the final three quarters. The Riders were held to less than 50 yards of total offense.
ICC will finish up their season next Friday as they travel to undefeated Chatham in a non league contest.
Ravena v. Hudson
The Bluehawks put an end to their two game losing streak with a 28-0 shutout victory Friday night over Ravena. Hudson improves to 4-2 with a big Reinfurt Division clash at Albany Academy next Friday. The winner of that game will take the third seed from the division, the loser will be the fourth heading into Class B Sectional play.
Mike Black scored on a short run to open the scoring in the first quarter. In the second Larell Roberts added another score and the Bluehawks converted on the two point play for a 14-0 lead. Right before the half Nevin Sheldon took an interception 40 yards for another score. The Bluehawks added one more touchdown in the fourth on a short Brandon Mabb rush.

Boys Soccer & ccSCOOP
Alright two things here...1) I'll be doing a Boys Soccer Week in Review here in this blog but will only be focusing on the four Patroon Conference teams from Columbia County because...2) I am back with ccSCOOP at least one a partial basis for now as they build towards something bigger in terms of covering the area! When I do daily breakdowns again next week I will be talking about all the teams in the league again but for the sake of this write up I don't have the time to discuss every team in the league.
BOYS SOCCER WEEK IN REVIEW
Ichabod Crane
We already fully covered Monday's match up in which first place ICC held on to beat second place Cairo Durham in a 3-2 thriller so take a look at that full game write up for more details.
In their second game of the week the Riders hosted winless Hudson and struggled to claw out a 1-0 victory against a feisty Bluehawks team. Bernie Watt scored the game's lone goal to help the Riders remain undefeated.
Just like the Cairo game, ccSCOOP fully covered the Riders 3-0 shutout win over rival Chatham from Friday so take a look at the site to see our full recap.
Hudson
The Bluehawks started the week off with a tough 1-0 loss to Catskill as Hudson remained winless. Hudson played tough and had their chances but surrendered a second half goal to a team who they had a legit shot at beating.
A winless team against an undefeated team on paper seems like a mismatch but Hudson fought hard and scrapped as they fell to ICC in Valatie by just one goal. Despite not earning the win, playing the top team in the league to a one goal game is an impressive feat. Brett Delamater came through with a great game in goal for Hudson making 12 saves.
Chatham
Building towards some important games in the upcoming days the Panthers took care of business against Taconic Hills with a 7-0 victory on Monday. Todd Van Alstyne led the Panthers with a pair of goals and a pair of assists.
The Panthers traveled to Greenville in brutally windy conditions which limited both teams. The Panthers Will Gauthier scored a goal early and Tyler Mashaw added one shortly there after as Chatham held on for a hard fought 2-0 win.
On Friday the Panthers hosted ICC as they looked for the upset. Check the site to take a look at feature on this match up.
Taconic Hills
The Titans had a rough start to the week as they fell to Columbia County foe Chatham 7-0. Jake Littman and Gabe Arcuri combined in goal for the Titans to make 26 stops.
On Wednesday the Titans rough week continued as they fell to Coxsackie Athens 4-1. Coleman Jaeger scored the Titans lone goal in the loss while Littman made 15 stops in the loss.
On Friday the Titans ended their week 0-3 as they dropped a 2-0 contest to Greenville. The two teams played a scoreless first half before the Spartans broke through. Littman made 8 more stops in the loss.

ICC shuts out Chatham in Boys Soccer
The undefeated and first place Ichabod Crane Riders went to Chatham on Friday and brought home an impressive 3-0 victory over the homestanding Panthers. The Riders improved their record to 11-0-1 with the win and will look to continue their strong play when they host one win Taconic Hills Monday night. Chatham remains in the upper half of the league despite the loss and falls to 8-3-1 with a game at winless Hudson on Thursday.
The game was physical with multiple warnings from officials for talking as well, but only one card was awarded in the always intense rivalry. The Riders ramped up the pressure right from the opening kickoff as they controlled possession and worked the ball to the wings. Six minutes into the game Tyler Jablanski was fed the ball on the left sideline and he sent a cross to the middle of the field where the ball went off Chatham sweeper Mike Gilbert and into the back of the net.
Ichabod Crane didn't become complacent and instead went right back on the attack. Four minutes after the first goal the Riders countered a Chatham offensive surge as Mitchell Niemeyer took the ball around mid field and play a fantastic ball inbetween Panther defenders and onto the streaking foot of Kyle Kline who ripped a low shot to the far post under the outstretched body of Chatham goalie Steven Oleynek as the Riders jumped out in front 2-0.
As the half drew on the Riders continued to dominate possession and nearly added another goal. Nick Boardman took an ICC free kick from deep in his own end and found the head of Kline who flicked the ball over a crowd on players into space where Niemeyer had sprinted into. If not for a diving effort towards the ball by Oleynek, Niemeyer would have added a goal to go with his earlier assist.
The Riders opened the second half with a fantastic chance that again forced Oleynek into making a big save. Will Poetszch made a slide tackle challenge on a Panther defender to keep the ball in a dangerous spot. Kline got onto the loose ball and ripped a high shot heading for the upper corner before Oleynek laid out and vollied the ball to safety.
The Panthers started to fight back gaining some possession and the occasional chance but another superb defensive effort by the Riders made it an easy day in goal for Alex Mastrianni. With Boardman controlling the defense from the sweeper position and Steve Domino clearly out numerous chips with his head the Riders could seemlessly sub in and out wing defenders with no problem.
With fourteen minutes left an ICC player was fouled outside the box near the sideline. With a free kick in dangerous position Poetszch chipped the ball into the box where Niemeyer, unmarked, was able to head it into the back of the net for the game's final goal.
Mastrianni recorded 8 stops in goal for the Riders in the win and was rarely forced to do more than just pick up a stray ball into the box. Oleynek made 6 stops in the loss for Chatham.

Panthers can't hold on, falling to Spartans in OT
The Chatham girl's soccer team hosted a struggling but very dangerous Greenville team on Thursday in a battle of two teams who looked like they were going in opposite directions. The young Panthers have had a solid season thus far while up until a week ago the Spartans had looked like the cream of the crop in the Patroon. After 100 minutes of hard fought soccer action Greenville pulled out a come from behind 5-4 win.
The two teams combined for a lot of shots and action through the first half an hour of the game with each offense peppering the opposing goals. Finally in the 36th minute Chatham broke free for a 1-0 lead when Cailey Nieto sent a ball between defenders and onto the running foot of Caroline Connor who calmly placed the ball in the far netting past the charging keeper.
It took just two minutes for the Spartans to respond as they pressed right up into the Chatham box. A Greenville shot beat Chatham's goalie Brittany Lossow but a defender was there to clear it off the line, but the ball went right to Heather Carl who knotted the game at one.
The two teams traded chances back and forth over the final few minutes of the first half as they headed to halftime even. Giving up a single goal in the half to the potent Spartan offense was even more impressive for the Panthers when it is noted that their starting sweeper Vicki Beamiss went down with an injury early. Kayla Clark, Abby Berninger and Caly Van Brunt stepped up the defensive effort to slow down the Greenville attack in the first half.
Coming right out of the break, just a minute and five seconds later the Panthers retook the lead when Taylor Wenk fired a low shot that found it's way under Greenville keeper Bonnie Harvey. Chatham kept up the intensity and Nieto nearly missed another goal firing it just high.
Fourteen minutes into the half Chatham would strike again, this time for a 3-1 lead. Chatham launched a corner into the box where Wenk ripped off a defender. The ball bounced to Alyssa Keeler who put the ball into the back of the net. The Panthers two goal lead however would be short lived. Right off the kickoff Alex Van Auken dribbled and juked her way through nearly the entire Panther team before scoring 13 seconds after the Panther goal to pull within one.
With 9 minutes on the clock and Chatham clinging to a one goal lead the Spartans would not be denied. Tess McAneny slid a pass to Jess Schonning just outside the box. Schonning turned, faced the goal and fired a high shot past the outstretched arms of Lossow to even the game at three and send the game to overtime.
A minute into the first overtime Greenville took it's first lead of the game when Taylor Ann Young crossed the ball to Van Auken who had a great finish into the side netting. A mere minute and fourteen seconds later Chatham responded as Wenk powered the ball past a charging goalie.
The two teams played the rest of the first overtime with Chatham putting on non stop pressure but being unable to finish. Both teams had their chances in the second overtime but it wasn't until the final 20 seconds that the game would be decided.
Young broke up the sideline and as the defenders collapsed she found Morgan Haskin all alone right in front of the goal. Haskin fired a shot on goal as Lossow charged the ball and got her hands on to it. The ball was loose and both teams scrambled before a Spartan player knocked the ball towards the net with Lossow on the ground. A Chatham defender was knocked to the ground near the mouth of the goal and hit it with her arm, keeping it out of the goal, but earning a yellow card and giving Greenville a penalty kick. Young took the kick and slid it past Lossow for the win.
Chatham outshot Greenville 30 to 21 while also holding an advantage in corner, 4-2. Brittany Lossow made 15 stops for Chatham, while Bonnie Harvey notched 21.
The Panthers fall to 7-4 and next have to face off with ICC on Saturday. Greenville improves to 7-3-1 and will host Hudson next Wednesday in their next match.

Wildcats pound Spartans and other Girls Soccer Action
With four games on tap Tuesday there was one that clearly stood above the rest as Patroon Conference leader Maple Hill hosted third place Greenville. Earlier in the year these two teams engaged in a barn burner with the contest finishing in an 8-8 draw. Two of the other matches showcased upper level teams (ICC and Chatham) against lower tier teams (Cairo and Taconic) and the final match up saw upstart Hudson against winless Catskill.
Greenville v. Maple Hill
After Spartans Alex Van Auken and Maple Hill's Meeghan Arno combined for 11 of their teams combined 16 goals in the first game, howver in the second contest neither one of the players scored a goal, but for the Wildcats that did not matter as they claimed a 5-0 victory. The win keeps Maple Hill alone in first place in the league.
The Wildcats scored three goals in the first half and added two more in the second. Ashley Cross scored three goals for MH while Sierra Legge netted two. Arno, Cheryl Bruen, Alyxe Perry and Cross each had an assist. Anna Racz made 3 stops in goal for MH while Abigail McQuillen and Bonnie Harvey combined for 4 saves for Greenville.
Maple Hill is off until Saturday when they play host to Catskill while Greenville has another major match up on Friday when they travel to Chatham.
Cairo Durham v. Ichabod Crane
The Riders hosted Cairo on Tuesday and came away with an easy victory after scoring five goals in the first half and three in the second compared to the Mustangs lone second half goal. ICC's 8-1 victory keeps them alone in second place behind Maple Hill in the Patroon Conference. Up next for ICC is a trip to Hudson on Thursday while Cairo heads to Catskill.
Alex Armstrong scored 2 goals and picked up an assist for the Riders while Morgan Van Alstyne scored 2 goals of her own. Both Cassidy Lester and Jessica Mink finished with a goal and an assist while Rebecca Daggett and Julianna Sacco each netted a goal. Shana Barry tallied 3 assists and Mariela Jacome added one. Cairo's lone goal came from Nicole Zacchio.
In goal Zoe Leary made 2 stops for ICC and Alicia Mink made 1. Cairo's goalie Sam Lorenz made 12 stops.
Chatham v. Taconic Hills
The Panthers made the trip to Craryville and netted a goal in the first half before adding three more in the second en route to a 4-0 win over Taconic Hills. The win keeps Chatham in third place as they get ready to host fourth place Greenville on Thursday while the Titans head to Coxsackie Athens.
Regina Behn, Danielle Carrizales, Alyssa Keeler and Abby Wheeler each scored for Chatham with Caroline Connor and Cailey Nieto each picking up an assist. Brittany Lossow made 3 stops in goal for the Panthers while Janine Hamm came through with 27 stops for the Titans in the loss.
Catskill v. Hudson
The Bluehawks hosted Catskill and kept them winless thanks to a 3-0 victory. Hudson scored one goal in the first half from Catherine Sundheim and added two more in the second half, one from Sundheim and one from Hailey Hollenbeck.
Catskill's keeper Meghan Baxter had enough strong performance for her team despite the loss as she made nearly 30 saves.
Hudson host's ICC in a tough match on Thursday while the Cats will host Cairo as they search for their first win of the season.

The other Boys Soccer Results from Monday
Since I attended the Cairo-ICC game and already wrote up a big piece on that we'll skip over that game and the implications and instead take a quick peak at the other three games that took place on Monday.
Catskill v. Hudson
In a game where I thought scoring may be rampant, the Cats instead kept Hudson winless and won a defensive battle 1-0 in Hudson. Adam Kahlil scored the games lone goal in the second half to help Catskill earn their third victory of the year.
In a battle of goal keepers Ricky Meyers made six stops for the Cats while Brett Delamater made eleven for Hudson.
Up next for the 0-10 Bluehawks will be a difficult trip to face undefeated ICC under the lights in Valatie on Wednesday night. Catskill who improved to 3-6-1 with the win will next square off against Cairo Durham in Cairo on Wednesday.
Maple Hill v. Greenville
The Wildcats made the long trek to Greenville on Monday and continued to gel as a team and improve with a 4-0 win over the Spartans. The victory keeps Maple Hill firmly in the top tier of the Patroon but still three losses behind league leader ICC. Greenville had a chance to draw to .500 in the league but instead fell to 4-6.
Maple Hill scored a pair of goals in each half as Bruce Adams, Adam Fuller, Corey Legge and Steven Sepkowski each found the back of the net.
Greenville will now host Chatham on Wednesday while the Wildcats are off until Friday.
Taconic Hills v. Chatham
Chatham remained alone in third place in the Patroon behind ICC and CD after posting a dominating 7-0 victory over Taconic Hills. The Panthers scored four goals in the first half before adding three more in the second as they improved to 7-2-1. The Titans fell to 1-8 and will host Coxsackie Athens on Wednesday while the Panthers travel to Greenville.
Todd Van Alstyne finished the game with 2 goals and 2 assists while teammates Tyler Mashaw, Cody Clifford, Marley Carroll, Ryan Behrens and Charlie Hughes each added a single goal apiece. Will Gauthier tallied 2 assists for Chatham while Nick Faxon added one.
In goal Steve Oleynek was forced to make just 2 saves to earn the win while Jake Littman and Gabe Arcuri combined to make 25 stops in goal for the Titans.

Rider boy's surge, then survive against Cairo
BOYS SOCCER
Cairo Durham v. Ichabod Crane
With first place on the line the Mustangs of Cairo made the trek to play ICC under the lights in Valatie on Monday night. A victory by C-D would push them into first place in the Patroon, while a second loss on the season to ICC would put the Riders firmly into the driver's seat as the seasons grinds into it's second half.
Right from the get go this game started off with fire. Although rain had held off most of the day, a rain shower before the game made things slick and a mere minute into the contest off an ICC miscue Cairo was able to counter attack but the Rider defense snuffed it out. Coming right back the Riders cracked a shot that forced C-D goal keeper Cory Gransbury to make a diving save for a corner. ICC kept up the efforts with Will Poetzsch ripping a wobbly shot just wide of the upper corner.
In the sixth minute of the contest the Riders got on the score board as Mitchell Niemeyer dribbled through the box as defenders converged upon him. Kyle Kline got his foot to the ball forcing it through Mustang and defenders and with the keeper charging Niemeyer ripped the ball off Gransbury and sent it squeezing through and into the net.
The Riders kept up their attack controlling the game in every aspect. In the 16th minute Mike Niemann sent a through ball between defenders and with Gransbury a step slow off his line Kline swooped in and fired home a goal to the far post for a 2-0 ICC lead.
As the first half continued the rain and wind picked up and made things difficult for both teams but Cairo seemed to take advantage the most mounting pressure on the ICC defense and goalie Alex Mastrianni. Anything Cairo was able to send towards the goal Mastrianni was able to handle as the Riders headed to the half up two.
Coming out of the half the Riders regained control of possession and the game as they again mounted pressure on the Mustang net. After a series of corners Poetzsch lofted a corner to the far post where Phil Basile slid in and finished for a commanding 3-0 Rider lead.
With the game seemingly in hand a shift in momentum came about in a hurry as the game became more physical and the Riders seemed to become visably shaken. Cairo started to mount an offensive as time ticked on. In the 62nd minute Chris Gagliardi put a well struck corner kick into the center of the box where Mike Eberhard put a solid head onto it and sending it towards the goal. The ball hit the underside of the cross bar and came straight down with nothing but Riders around it. As Mastrianni scooped it up the official ran in and signified the ball had crossed the line and awarded Cairo a goal despite numerous ICC objections.
Seven minutes later with about 10 minutes left in the game Cairo's Andy Fishman found himself in space with the ball in front of the ICC goal and slid the ball past Mastrianni to slice the lead to one. After the goal things went from bad to worse for ICC as Mastrianni earned a yellow card and on his way off the field Rider coach Matthias Nordgren was also given a yellow.
Although Cairo kept up pressure over the final minutes they were never close to equalizing the game as ICC held on for the 3-2 victory. Mastrianni made 4 saves in goal for the Riders while Gransbury made 7 stops for the Mustangs.
The Riders who improve to 9-0-1 were whistled for 5 fouls in the game while taking 9 corner kicks. Despite the loss Cairo remains alone in second place in the Patroon at 8-2. The Mustangs took four corners and were whistled for seven fouls.
Both teams return to action on Wednesday when ICC hosts Hudson under the lights at 7 while C-D hosts Catskill at 4.

The Titans hosted the Braves and fell to 2-3 after a 30-16 loss on Friday. After falling behind 7-0 early the Titans took the lead on a Nolan Boice TD run and his own two point conversion. Fonda answered back and wouldn't trail again as they outclassed the Titans.
TH will travel to one win Coxsackie on Saturday.
Voorheesville v. Coxsackie Athens
The Indians fell 36-15 at home on Saturday in a game that was a lot closer than the score indicated. Despite running nearly double the plays, gaining more yards and controlling the clock the Indians could not pull the upset over the Blackbirds.
Voorheesville opened the scoring in the first quarter before the Indians responded with two second quarter scores, Jimmy Stephens and Kyle Humphrey one yard runs.
