We'll start off with a quick note on the girl's side of things. I didn't get around to the results right away but having taken a look there weren't any upsets from Monday. The only true game of note was the Chatham-Greenville game which just showed how strong Greenville is.
After we get the notes from tonight's game we'll take a look at both days results.
Now onto the boys results from Tuesday. I already highlighted the Chatham-ICC game but there were three other games as well.
Coxsackie Athens v. Cairo Durham
The Indians have a solid squad this year, I'd think just beneath the top tier teams, somewhere in the 5th-6th spot in the league while C-D at least in the early goings has the makings of a top 3 team if not first. C-D picked up a first half goal and was able to hold on for a 1-0 lead in a very defensive contest.
The Mustangs are known as a defensive minded club but thus far this season have been putting the ball into the back of the net so this result is a bit surprising. Either C-A is a little better than I thought or maybe Cairo started hot but may be a bit overrated. I don't think we'll get the answer to either question on Thursday when Cairo should easily handle Taconic Hills while C-A plays an average Catskill team.
Taconic Hills v. Greenville
In a battle of lower tier teams the Titans put up a good fight but fell 3-2 to the Spartans. Greenville had more pressure and were up 2-0 at the half. Mitchell Albrecht scored 2 goals for the Titans both assisted by Mike Mierzesewski to even the game. Mike Sanchez who has been on a tear for Greenville scored his second goal of the game to give the Spartans the edge.
Greenville has a chance to notch another early season win on Thursday when they face Hudson while the Titans will have a difficult go of things against Cairo.
Maple Hill v. Catskill
As expected the Wildcats were too much for the Cats as they won 5-0 in Catskill. David Briggs scored 2 goals for Maple Hill while Corey Legge notched another one to his yearly total. Jake Yager has been a pleasant surprise for Maple Hill and scored another goal for them while Steven Sepowski also added a goal for them. I expected Sepowski to have a big year after a very solid freshman campaign. Maybe this goal gets him going.
Catskill will play C-A on Thursday in an interesting match up for a team trying to prove they are a top tier team (Indians) and a team trying to prove they are better than people think (Cats). The Maple Hill-ICC game on Thursday has major early season implications.
